Gandalf was abandoned by his family when he was around 4 years old, all because his former owners would get divorced and they thought they could no longer take care of him. After that, he was taken in by a family, but it didn’t take long for a neighbor, who always wanted to have a kitten, to decide to adopt the kitten.
“I was sad for him because that autumn my parents had just split up too,” Melissa Losier, Gandalf’s new mom, told The Dodo. “I needed him as much as he needed me.”
From the first moment he moved to his new home, he loved his new mom. He is super affectionate with her (basically everyone he meets) and walks after her all day. But for some strong reason, she could never get him to play with any toy.
“He’s a very relaxed and well-behaved kitten,” Losier said. “But he doesn’t seem to be a fan of toys. I’ve bought all kinds of toys, but nothing interests him.”
In addition to following his mama, taking a good nap is right next to the little kitten’s list of favorite things – so one day, his mom decided to make him a “toy” where he could take his naps at ease.
“I was already thinking about making him a cuddly little place so he slept,” Losier said. “He likes the scratching posts and the bed I bought him, but why not a comfortable little hideout ?!”
Losier got to work, researched on Youtube how to make houses for cats, put together some paints, cardboard and other things he would need and started working. Four hours later, she had created the most awesome cat house in the world – yet she was not entirely sure of Gandalf’s reaction.
After finding a good place to put the house and make it comfortable with some blankets, she gave the little kitten her own creation…
… And to his astonishment, he was “shocked” and absolutely entranced by his new little house.
“I left a few treats inside the house to make it easier to get into the mini house,” said Losier. “Apparently he loved it and my hard work was rewarded.”
Now the kitten loves to spend hours and hours curled up inside his little house. It may not be a traditional “toy”, but it is your favorite place to play and especially sleep !!
… And he seems so grateful that his mother took some time to do something so wonderful just for him!”A simple box could have had the same effect, but why not make it cuter, right?” Losier finished.
Losier, we thought it was a wonderful idea and we would just like all the kittens to be treated with as much love and dedication as Gandalf has been treated. We just have to thank you!
